Channel attribution

Four channels. One conversion. One winner.

Every ad platform measures itself – and every one concludes it was the decisive one. usertrax is the layer above: an independent count that decides which channel actually earned the conversion.

Why your channels contradict each other

Every platform is its own referee

Google Ads counts a conversion if there was a Google click at some point beforehand. Meta does the same. Both are right from their own perspective – and both show up in your report.

Attribution windows overlap

30-day click here, 7-day view there. A customer who researches for a week ends up appearing in three accounts at once.

Affiliates grab the last click

A voucher-site click right before checkout overwrites everything – and you pay commission for a customer Google Ads bought expensively.

How the channel switch decides

  1. 01

    Collect touchpoints

On the first page view, usertrax reads the click parameters the platforms hand over themselves: gclid (Google), fbclid (Meta), msclkid (Microsoft), ttclid (TikTok) and affiliate parameters. Each visit is stored as a timestamped touchpoint.

  2. 02

    Reconstruct the chain

When the visitor returns, usertrax appends the new touchpoint to the same anonymous session identifier – first-party, on your domain, without personal data.

  3. 03

    Determine the last real click

At conversion time, usertrax looks at the chain and picks the last paid click. Not the loudest channel, not the one with the longest attribution window.

  4. 04

    Report back exclusively

The conversion goes back to that single channel – via offline conversion import, revenue value included. The others get nothing.

Common questions about attribution

Why last click and not a multi-touch model?
Because you have to push conversions back into an ad account, and Google Ads and Meta only accept whole conversions – not 0.4 of one. A multi-touch report is nice for analysis but useless for Smart Bidding. usertrax shows you the full touchpoint chain in the dashboard but reports cleanly back to one channel.
What if the last click was organic?
Then no paid channel gets credit – and that is exactly the information you're paying for. usertrax attributes the conversion to the organic channel and reports nothing to your ad accounts.
Can I change the attribution window?
Yes. The default is 30 days. You can adjust the window per domain if your buying cycle is longer or shorter.
